Description

The University of Colombo Institute for Agro-Technology and Rural Sciences will entertain applications from suitably qualified persons for the following posts of Temporary Assistant Lecturer up to 28.09.2026.

DEPARTMENT OF AGRO-TECHNOLOGY

01. Temporary Assistant Lecturer - specialising in Agricultural Biology.

02. Temporary Assistant Lecturer - specialising in Agriculture Economics and Extensions.

DEPARTMENT OF FOOD TECHNOLOGY

01. Temporary Assistant Lecturer - specialising in Food Science and Technology.

The appointments are temporary. Selection will be by an interview.

Qualifications required

DEPARTMENT OF AGRO-TECHNOLOGY

01. Agricultural Biology

BSc. Hons in Agriculture / BSc. (Hons) Degree in Agricultural Resource Management and Technology / BSc. (Hons) Degree in Green Technology / BSc. (Hons) Degree in Agricultural Sciences and Management / BSc. (Hons) Degree in Agricultural Technology and Management / Bachelor of Bio-systems Technology Honours in Agriculture / Bachelor of Agro-Technology Honours with specializing in Agricultural Biology with or without a class.

02. Agriculture Economics and Extensions

BSc. Hons in Agriculture / BSc. (Hons) Degree in Agricultural Resource Management and Technology / BSc. (Hons) Degree in Agricultural Sciences and Management / BSc. (Hons) Degree in Agricultural Technology and Management / Bachelor of Bio-systems Technology Honours in Agriculture / Bachelor of Agro-Technology Honours with specializing in Agriculture Economics and extensions with or without a class.

DEPARTMENT OF FOOD TECHNOLOGY

01. Food Science and Technology

BSc. Hons in Agriculture with specializing in Food Science or BSc. Hons in Food Science and Technology / Bachelor of Biosystems Technology Honours in Food Technology / BSc. (Hons) Degree in Agricultural Resource Management and Technology / BSc. (Hons) Degree in Agricultural Sciences and Management / BSc. (Hons) Degree in Agricultural Technology and Management / Bachelor of Agro-Technology Honours with specializing in food science and technology with or without class.

Experience

Preference will be given to candidates who have teaching experience in subjects related to the post applied for:

Agro-Technology 01 - Agricultural Biology / Biotechnology related subjects.
Agro-Technology 02 - Agriculture Economics and Extensions related subjects.
Food Technology 01 - Food Science related subjects.

Having an MPhil or MSc will be an added qualification.

To complete the application process, download and print your filled application form from your confirmation e-mail and forward it under registered cover, together with certified copies of the relevant educational certificates (with transcripts), professional qualifications, research publications (where applicable) and service certificates, to reach the Deputy Registrar, University of Colombo Institute for Agro-Technology and Rural Sciences, Weligatta New Town, Hambantota on or before 28.09.2026. The post applied for should be indicated on the top left-hand corner of the envelope.

Applications that do not conform to the prescribed requirements, incomplete applications, applications received after the closing date, or applications submitted without completing both the hard copy and online submission requirements will be rejected without prior notice.
